Alex Atkins signs for top Belgian amateur team (supported by powerPerfector PLC.)

Former multi-national junior champion, Alex Atkins has recently signed for top Belgian amateur team, Yawadoo Mobile - ABM – Badhuis O’Pure. Returning to a full time cycling after studying, Alex will compete in a top quality race program with his 12-man team.

Alex will be based in Belgium living in accomodation with women’s professional team, Swift Racing, for the 2008 season. After being given an opportunity last October to ride cyclo-cross in Belgium for the Flanders – Pacific – Lydon outfit he
made the move straight away but is
now focusing on the road season
Team Yawadoo Mobile ahead. Alex has been racing abroad since he was a junior so it was only a matter of time before the talented youngster packed his bags and made the trip over to Belgium for good.

The team have one of the best programmes of any Belgian Amateur Team, including all UCI 1.2, Interclub, Pro-Kermis and stage races in Belgium. Alex, clearly excited at the prospect of riding for team said, “It’s a great opportunity for me and there is a lot of experience to be gained from top riders on the team such as ex-National road race champion, Hamish Haynes, and former Tour de France pro, Marc Streel. I have raced in Belgium on and off for the past three seasons and have settled nicely in the house and my team so
now I’m motivated to start racing again.”

The opportunity for Alex to be able train and race in abroad for the 2008 season comes from the result of a personal sponsorship deal from voltage optimisation company powerPerfector Plc.

“powerPerfector are delighted to have this opportunity to support a young British sporting talent.
Alex Atkins, as a competitor in one of the only mechanical sports with such a minimal carbon footprint, was a natural for us! This is an important consideration for a new company educating the business world to the advantages of adopting Voltage Optimisation as a frontline approach to reducing carbon emissions and electricity waste. We were looking for someone who would be an ambassador for our company and project our ethos. Alex does that in more than one way and we believe he will prove himself, in time, to be a great rider as well as an inspiration to those around him to think about how they can protect the environment for generations to come.
We believe that real strength comes from an individual working in harmony with the team around him. The same is true for each individual in the fight to save the global environment.

We wish Alex the very best of luck for 2008.” Angus Robertson CEO

Speaking from his base in Tielt-Winge, Belgium, “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to move abroad and race in Belgium from PowerPerfector. I think it is great that a new sponsor is coming into cycling after the some of the bad press the sport has received in recent times but I hope 2008 will see a change and see more sponsors like this come into the sport. I’d also like to thank Stefan from Swift Racing for giving me a base for the season and I can’t complain that I have some nice girls to stay with! Now I’m focusing on the upcoming races and look forward to a successful season with Team Yawadoo.”
