Gilbert untouchable
Phillippe Gilbert (FdJ) was a worthy winner of the newlook Het Volk on Saturday, the French speaking Walloon led home another Belgian, Nick Nuyens (Cofidis) and Sweden's Thor Hushovd (Credit Agricole).

Gilbert soloed to victory from 50km out, catching the break and steaming through them to take a fabulous win that will rank as one of the all-time great rides in this season opening classic.

After three French teams showed up the Belgians on Saturday it was up to Quick Step to save face with Steven De Jongh the next day at Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne
while Tom Boonen took fourth.
