Kemmelberg
The
Belvedere
If you can get there well before the race (Gent-Welvelgem), or are just
passing through, the restaurant at the summit of the Kemmelberg
is recommended.
The Belvedere (e-mail belvedere@pandora.be)
has a modern interior but is friendly and welcoming to cyclists.
When we stopped there during a short tour at the end of 2006 we had Cokes,
cheese and ham omelettes with frites and coffees, plus chocolates for
25 euros (£17) all in.
Around the walls are old photos showing the old tower which was destroyed
during WW1.
On race day (Wednesday 9 April 2008) the Belvedere is packed but it’s
a great place to grab a coffee or meal, watch the race during its two
ascents, and then the finale on TV.
